Life after 30 (Part 1)

OK, so you’re now really in ADULT MODE. Your 20’s has been “Adult Practice”. If you’re by society standards “lucky” to already be married to someone wonderful.. (hopefully) and most likely have a kid or two and your dream job/career then congrats to you. If not, don’t even feel like you’re missing out or doing something wrong. Your journey is YOURS to live by YOUR STANDARD and not anyone else’s. 

Here is my list of things you should be doing after hitting the BIG 30…


1.Make your darn bed – In my 20’s I didn’t see the use in making a bed just to lie back down in it and get it all rumpled again. A clean, neatly made bed gives your bedroom a breath of fresh air and a sense of peace. A made bed creates a non-chaotic place and creates a personal sanctuary so to speak.

  1. Know that it’s OK- It’s time you and I know that it is quite OK to be unapologetically you. It’s OK to not have it all figured out. It’s OK to say NO. It’s OK to not please everyone. It’s OK to walk to the beat of your own drums. It’s OK to speak your piece and keep it moving. It’s OK to fail. It’s OK to love. It’s OK to trust. It’s OK to let go of people and things that don’t mean well. By now you should know that it’s OK to be disappointed. It’s OK TO START OVER. It’s OK because it is an opportunity to grow and experience.

  1. Travel- Go somewhere new…even if it means jumping the bus or train to go to another city. I have a bucket list of places I need to see and I’m excited to start ticking them off.

  1. Be Independent – Being able to stand on your own is the strongest and best shit ever. Not having to depend on anyone and being able to take care of your own bills and whatever needs to be done for yourself is a blessing.

  1. Make you own decision – it used to be hard for me to make a decision. I had to think of how it would affect everyone else rather than how it would affect me. Be confident in whatever decision you make. You’re old enough and hopefully responsible enough to do what’s right for you.

  1. Be more HEALTH CONSCIOUS– after seeing the way cancer and heart diseases plague my community and family, I had no choice but to be proactive with my health. You only have one life, one body, and many opportunities to treat it great.

  1. Make YOU, your PRIORITY– It’s important to cater to yourself first before anyone else. Make sure to take the time to care for you, to take yourself out on dates, to spend quality quiet time in your own company, to learn new things, to meet new people, to spend time with the people in your life who love, support and encourage you.

  1. Enjoy your own company – Give yourself an electronic break at some point during the day. Curl up in bed with a good book, write in your journal, take a walk and be happy in the present moment.

  1. Realize your passion – What’s your hobby? How do you get your creative juices flowing? If you don’t know then its time to start networking or join different activity groups etc. to get a feel of what you might like.

  1. Be confident with the reflection in the mirror – See past the flaws, open your eyes and see your soul and the beauty it reflects on the outside.
